Individualized Medical Model of Eating Disorder Treatment

Our Intensive Outpatient Programs were developed to treat Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorder. Our multi-disciplinary team of professionals, which consist of Licensed Therapists, Social Workers, Mental Health Techs, Registered Dietitians, an Internist and Psychiatrist, are highly experienced and dedicated in helping people who are suffering from  these life threatening diseases.

As with any severe illness, our treatment starts begins with a comprehensive Medical and Psychiatric assessment. The initial assessment is to diagnose the Eating Disorder and to identify if there are medical complications of the disorder and to assess if there are co-morbid Psychiatric conditions that are connected to the disorder.  Treatment includes Medical and Psychosocial therapies. A treatment plan is coordinated between Medical and Non-Medical professionals.  All assessments and treatments are performed on-site for the convenience of the patients. .

The program will consist of individual therapy and a variety of group processes such as, but not limited to:

  • Family Education
  • Nutritional Education
  • Goal Setting
  • Art Therapy
  • Body Image Challenge
  • Food and Feelings Group
  • CBT, DBT/Coping Skills
  • Process/Topic Group
  • Yoga/Exercise and Codependency/Self Esteem Group.

The Intensive Outpatient Program offers a supported meal and  PHP offers 2 supported meals and one snack. Additional services such as Neurofeedback and TMS are also available.

The Intensive Outpatient Programoperates from 5:30 PM through 9:00 PM, Monday, Tues, and Thursdays evenings. PHP runs from 12:00 noon through 7:00 PM Monday through Friday. We accept patients between the ages of 18 and 64, with a maximum of 8 patients in each process group.

Clients are required to attend the programs from 3 to 5 times per week, with a decrease in attendance as the eating disorder behaviors and daily functioning improve. Estimated treatment within the program will vary per individual, from 1 month to 6 months.

Most major insurance companies cover the majority of the cost for treatment.

Medical Director’s statement:

Eating disorders, Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia are among the most severe psychiatric illnesses.. Research has demonstrated that an integrated Medical and PsychoSocial Treatment Plan has a better success rate than either Medical or Psycho-Social treatments alone. Medical and Psychiatric complications need to be identified and treated simultaneously to have the most successful outcome.  And treatment plan coordination between Medical and Non-medical professionals is essential to treatment success.

Inspire Malibu’s goal is to provide the very best patient care by integrating and coordinating proven treatment methods while offering the latest scientific innovations in Eating Disorder therapies.
